James Napier and William Hobe were friends.  They attended together the 1925 Paris World s Fair Exposition Internationle des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes".  The two men were the first to bring back to the United States the designs and influences of the Parisian and European fashion scene.
Napier was know to study the European markets with great intensity and had in fact an office in Paris to keep on top of the new fashion trends.    Both James Napier and William Hobe regarded their as not being costume but rather fashion jewelry.  Fashion jewelry was held within the industry to be jewelry of a superior quality to costume and with it carried an element of prestige.  Both the companies of Hobe and Napier were considered prestigious jewelry manufacturers during the 1920's and through out the 1950's  into the 1960's.
These two men were essentially the first to study and implement the trends of the European market and its influences during the 1920's.   Shortly thereafter in 1925 a committee was formed within the industry to study and follow the market trends keeping jewelry manufacturers apprised of what was happening in Europe.
