Benicia
Historic
Museum
of Costume Jewelry
Vintage Jewelry Collect has founded The Benicia Historic
Museum of Costume Jewelry.
The Benicia Historic Museum of Costume Jewelry
is projected to open in late 2009 or early 2010.
The museum will be working in conjunction with other
organizations dedicated to the preservation of American
costume jewelry. The museum will promote the
study jewelry history by organizing ongoing
conference/seminars covering various subjects and
aspects of the American costume jewelry trade.
The efforts to open this Benicia Historical Museum of
Costume Jewelry will not be possible without the aide of
jewelry historians and costume jewelry lovers throughout
the country. The museum has an ongoing effort to
obtain articles, magazines, jewelry and related items
for future exhibits or study. Without this help
from the public to preserve these artifacts, we will
loose a significant part of fashion history; History
that is rich in cultural trends, influenced by
Hollywood
, war times, politics, technology and fashion.
We encourage manufacturers to help aid in this effort
by preserving and respecting company archives that
provide important historical information which is often
lost to corporate acquisitions and closures.
It is the intent of, The Benicia Historical Museum of
Costume Jewelry, to act as the guardian of this
significant data and provide access to the
aforementioned in a venue made available to the
public at large.
Benicia
is located in the San Francisco Bay Area and serves as
an historic backdrop for the museum. It is home of
the first State Capital and is known for its famous
arsenal and Clock Tower. The arsenal was the primary
source of weapon supplies dating back to the Civil War.
Ulysses R. Grant once lived in the historic Commandant's
Mansion, still standing today overlooking the gorgeous
waterfront bay views.
Benicia Main Street
is filled with wonderful historic points of
interest, fine restaurants, and antique stores.
It is located just off of Highway 780
and is a 20 minutes drive from the Napa Wine Country.
Persons wishing to contact the museum
may do so, by calling Melinda Abbott at
707-751-1665.
